A Love Supreme: The Last One Before We Go On Our Summer Holidays!

5 Jun

If you had told me when we started up ‘A Love Supreme’ last October that we would have had Laurent Fintoni lecture, Sacred Harp Singers sing, a feature in ‘The Irish Times’, a piece on RTÉ Radio 1 arts show ‘Arena’, some of the most amazing drawings I have ever seen and ‘Jenga’ players that are second to none at our little event (that started out as an excuse for us to play records) I would have probably laughed at you! But 9 months on and they are only some of the highlights that spring to mind!
This Sunday however we are packing up our bags for the summer! I have brought the clothes box marked summer down from the top shelf and mynameisjOhn and Ursula have their buckets and spades at the ready for their holidays!

So join us if you can at Dr. John’s on Thomas St. this Sunday from 4pm for our last event until the autumn! It has been you the supporters of ‘A Love Supreme’ who have made it what it is so lets welcome in the summer with one last hurrah before we go our separate ways.

As always, mynameisjOhn and PC on the vinyl duties to soundtrack your Pictionary and Jenga escapades! See you there…

A Love Supreme XIV – The one where we have an open decks policy!

5 May

So, since last October, we’ve had the chance to pull out and play some of the records which we thought we’d only ever get to spin in the confines of our own houses. Fair play to all of ye for allowing us to do so. It’s those rare records and unexpected selections that give’s one a good insight into the mind of the soul. But we want to learn more about ye, the audience!

So this upcoming ‘A Love Supreme’ will have an-open decks policy. We’ll be keeping it to 3 records per person, so you got to choose ’em wisely. Grab some wax that means something special to you and come on down and share your audio treasures with everyone else. If it’s a country record – cool! If it’s a prog record – perfect! If its a hard-house record – Ah, you probably should just leave that at home.

Thanks to everyone thats made it down to our new base in Doctor John’s on Thomas Street, it’s a really great space with fantastic staff and a superb atmosphere. This Sunday, we’ll be running with our usual selection of games and art activities, but we’ll be putting a theme on all the drawings and pictures from now on – just to keep it interesting.

A Love Supreme is on from 4 – 9pm next Sunday the 13th in Doctor Johns at 31 Thomas Street in Limerick. Admission is free and the craic is only mighty! See you there…

A Love Supreme XIII – The One Where We Move House

23 Apr

So, after 12 glorious events in Leddin’s Bar ‘A Love Supreme’ has decided to move our decks, our dusty records and our Tension Tower down town. We’re not superstitious or anything like that about our 13th instalment but we felt now was as good a time as any to make a move! Many thanks to Leddin’s for their support over the past six months, we shall never forget the memories…

This Sunday you can find us in our new surrounds at Dr. John’s above 31 Thomas Street. John has promised us an injection of a new lease of life! We’re not too sure what that is but we’re excited by the prospect none the less! To get the ball rolling we have invited back one of our favourite guest dj’s ‘Jazz Boy’ Jason Murphy from Cork with PC and mynameisjOhn on standby in the waiting room. Laid back sounds all the way to soundtrack your afternoon! See you this Sunday from 4pm! Onwards and upwards…
